... we'd have the first opportunity of the day to stretch our legs. To be precise, we'd stop by the roadside near the little village of Korita and follow the steep, narrow path that leads uphill to the church of St. Eliah. From there, an even steeper and narrower path would lead us to the church of Our Lady of Mercy (Lady of the Mountain). Beautiful views included.
After some more driving, we'd reach the other side of Mljet, namely, the village of Saplunara with its famous sand beach.
Of course walking in the white sand was mandatory, but as it was the middle of the day and the sun was accordingly hot, I soon decided to get my feet wet in the crystal clear water before hiding myself in the shadow.
However, not everybody seemed to agree that there's nothing better than falling asleep on a rock underneath the pine trees.
Another stop, another short hike, this time to the remains of the church of St. Paul, which are connected to the legend of the apostle's shipwreck on the island Mljet, which was at that time known under it's Greek name "Melita".
On our way back home, we'd stop once again to visit the renaissance building of Knežev dvor in Babino Polje...
... learn about its history in the ethnological exhibition...
... and discover it's current treasures on a sun-lit terrace as well as in the garden itself. As close as one can come to the paradise fruit: by far the best, sweetest and juiciest figs I've ever tasted. It's more than a shame that the soil underneath the tree is covered with figs that are about to go to waste, and the fruits that are literally hanging from every tiny branch will follow their fate, too. If I could, I'd most definitely get myself a ladder and eat every single fig I'd find up to the point of not being able to breathe.
And once the day was coming to the end, the Dalmatian skies delivered yet another wonderful light show to admire...
... unless one is a diligent ant, of course.
