Summer in a box

Among the numerous things that collect dust on my shelves and use up space in my drawers, I recently found a cardboard box of seashells that I've found in Piran last yearI must have forgotten about them already, but now they finally found a new place to stay.
A recycled place, to be precise. When I used up my body peeling, I had this nice plastic can which I simply couldn't throw away, and I thought I might as well use it to store part of my stash in it.
Of course, my first idea was to squeez in some of my crafting stuff, but as nothing seemed to match the size of the box, I remembered those seashells.
The idea of a shell storage doesn't really need much of an explanation: as they come from Piran, I decided to print one of my images of this lovely little town and place it on the lid of te can. (In the end, I printed out a whole selection of photos on plain white paper to see how each motif looked like once it was cut ino shape.)
After some consideration, I went for the image of the main square with the Tartini monument in the forefront and the church of St. George in the background. Once I printed it on thicker paper, I adjusted it on the lid and cut the circle. Once I glued it on the lid, I added a couple of flowers.
Since it still looked a bit plain to me, I decided to add a border of tiny white pearls all around the lid...
... And - to finish it off - a strip of paper with a stone pattern all around the box itself.
On the one hand, it seemed to match in terms of colour scheme, and they match the stony coastline around Piran. On the other hand, I'd pick a stony coast above sand anytime as it's much more comfortable to me, and it makes packing up things so much easier when there isn't sand pouring out of every item you brought with you :)

  1. This is such a great place to store those gorgeous shells! I agree! A stony coastline is much better than having sand everywhere!
